How this campaign is funded

We publish who runs this campaign and how it is paid for, before anyone asks. If you can support the work, here is exactly how your money is held and what it will never be used for.

Who runs it

Fairness First is run by Stuart Thompson. The campaign asks the Civil Procedure Rule Committee to reword one rule so that fairness is named in the overriding objective, where cost already is. It is not connected to any political party and does not support or oppose any party or candidate. It is not connected with the Civil Procedure Rule Committee.

Who pays for it now

Until the dedicated campaign fund is set up, Stuart Thompson meets the campaign’s costs himself. Viseum International Limited, the company he founded, provides the site’s hosting and the globalsafetywatch.org domain the site sits on, and has agreed to make a founding donation to the fund when it is set up. That donation is capped, it will be published on this page in full when it is made, and it buys no influence over the ask or the wording, which is the rule that applies to every gift.

How gifts are held

Gifts are held in a dedicated campaign fund with its own account and published governance, separate from any personal account and from any trading company, so that every pound in and every pound out can be shown. The campaign is not a charity, because under charity law a campaign to change the law cannot be one. That means there is no Gift Aid and no charity tax relief on a gift.

Clean money

We check where significant gifts come from, we keep the record, and we will refuse or return money that is tainted or that would compromise the campaign’s independence. A donor may support the campaign, but a donor may never buy influence over the ask or the wording. We hold donor details securely, use them only to administer the gift and to keep you informed if you ask, and never sell or share them. We intend to register with the Fundraising Regulator and to follow its Code of Fundraising Practice.

How to support the work

Can I give money to this campaign? Yes. The campaign accepts support, but privately rather than through a public collection, which is why there is no donate button anywhere on this site. Write to the address below and you will be told what a gift would pay for, how it is held, and the one rule that applies to every gift.

Fairness First Limited is the company being set up to hold the fund. It will be registered before the campaign goes public. If you are minded to give, say so now: an offer brings the registration forward. Nothing is accepted until the company exists and its account is open.
